Genesis Development Employment Services, with offices in Adel, Boone, Grinnell, Guthrie Center, Indianola, Jefferson, Perry, Storm Lake, and Winterset, provides valuable support to clients in many Iowa counties.  The Employment Services program assists individuals in obtaining and maintaining employment within their community.   In partnership with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation several types of career exploration are offered.

Community Employment Services

Genesis Employment Services is a job placement service that specializes in matching people with disabilities to employment opportunities in the community. The objective of the multi-step program is to identify vocational interests, strengths and barriers; to learn job-seeking skills; to develop a support network of family, friends, and professionals; and to find and keep a job in the community. Supported Employment Services is provided in several phases.

Employment Services staff assist each person in obtaining employment in the community matching their interests, abilities, and needs. Individuals receive instruction in job-search techniques, appropriate interviewing skills and how to successfully maintain a job.

Once a match is found, the new employee has the support of a job coach who assists him/her in learning his/her learning the responsibilities of the job, maintaining an acceptable work pace, and establishing a consistent work routine.  The job coach will also provide training and education to the consumer's employer to develop natural supports at the work site. The job coach remains on the job with the new employee until he/she is able to perform the job independently, per the consumer and/or the business' discretion.

Adult Career Exploration (ACE): Adult Career Exploration (or ACE) is offered in the Boone, Grinnell, Guthrie Center, Indianola, Storm Lake and Winterset sites.  ACE provides the opportunity for adults to explore employment options in their community.  Teaching work ethics, soft skills, resume building and training regarding work expectations.  Students have the opportunity to experience three different work sites each program year.  Our goal is to give students a thorough exploration into the world of work, to assist them in planning their future career path and to help understand a potential employer's expectations no matter what job they might have in the future.  Students are required to participate in one classroom day (2 hours) learning job and resume skills and two to four internship days (approximately 3 hours on site per day).  All aspects of the ACE program are integrated into the community.  The needs of students are met through different individualized work experiences.  Activities may include job shadowing, career informational interviews and a variety of short-term unpaid work internships (lasting 1 to 10 weeks) for career exploration.

Application Form - if you have been referred to the ACE program and would like to get started on the enrollment process, you can download the ACE Application here.
