RECYCLING - REDEMPTION

GENESIS DEVELOPMENT has been involved in recycling since the mid 1970’s when we operated a newspaper-recycling program. In the 1980’s we expanded our recycling program into the areas of business cardboard, office ledger and wooden pallets, and became involved in the pilot project for plastic recyclables sponsored by Fareway Stores.

In 1993 GENESIS partnered with Greene County to initiate and provide a countywide recycling program and was awarded a DNR grant to establish the Genesis Recycling Center. The Center is owned and operated by GENESIS while Greene County provides collection and transportation of recyclable materials to the facility.

In 2004 GENESIS entered into a business partnership with Mid America Recycling Corp in Des Moines and was awarded a DNR grant to transform the Recycling Center from a relatively low volume service provider to a high volume provider processing an average of 200 tons of recyclables – paper, glass, tin, cardboard and plastics – per month and providing a significant number of workstations for people with disabilities.

In 2008 GENESIS entered into a partnership with the Boone County Landfill in Boone and began a recycling operation at the Boone County Recycling Center providing additional workstations for people with disabilities. Curbside recyclables are picked up from workplaces in Boone, Ogden, Madrid, Woodward and Granger.
